Funds raised by Marehay Show and other events organised by Marehay Community Trust are donated to charity. The charities nominated are decided at the Trust’s AGM open meeting in March, which is also attended and contributed to by locals.
2008
As a result of the funds raised from the show and other social events, £1000 proceeds was donated to Breast Cancer Care and Marehay Chapel (£500 each). A presentation was made to both charities at a Marehay Chapel service.
2009
This year the funds raised were split between the British Heart Foundation’s local appeal, ‘The Heart of Derby’ and local hospice Maple Leaf House for those with Alzheimer’s and dementia. Presentation of the funds was made after the success of another successful fund raising event - a Race Night held at The Kestrel during the following February.
Marehay Recreation Ground
Some funds have also been set aside to help contribute towards improving Marehay Recreation Ground. The Trust is championing development at Marehay Recreation Ground (also known as Marehay Park) due to the land’s poor drainage which makes the majority of the park unusable. The Trust is also working towards enhancing the park in other ways. So far support has been shown from the council by way of providing a number of willows now set in the boggy area. The ethos of the Trust is to build a strong community in Marehay and it is considered that improvements to the Recreation Ground is something that all Marehay villagers can then benefit from in years to come.
