Building a strong community in Marehay

Competitions

Please support this event by entering into the competitions. The event has been organised for the local community, so in return it needs the local community to take part. You don’t have to be a specialist or experienced show goer to enter the competitions. Just have a go and have some fun! All welcome to enter.

Competitions to take place at Marehay Recreation Ground on Saturday 6th September 08.

10 – 12 noon Staging (show tents on Recreation Ground and in Chapel school room)
12 noon – 2pm  Judging
From 2pm  Show tents / Chapel school room open to the public for viewing
4pm    Presentation of show cups / trophies (main arena on Recreation Ground)
4.30 – 5pm Prize money paid out in the main tent on the Recreation Ground

Class entry 25p. Junior entry free. The number of classes that can be entered is unlimited.

1.  Cooking apples – 4*
2.  Dessert apples - 4
3. Any other fruit (mixed accepted) - any fruit not entered into Class 1 or 2 may be entered, including an entry comprising a mixture of different fruits - between 3 and 6 items

 

Vegetables

Veg4.  Tomatoes – 5 (any variety accepted)
5.  Runner beans – 6
6.  Carrots – 3 (with tops)
7.  Leeks – 2 (with tops)
8.  Onions – 3 (with tops)
9.  Shallots - 5
10.  Beetroot – 3 (with tops)
11.  Parsnips – 2 (with tops)
12.  Potato – 4 – (any colour / variety accepted)
13.  Cauliflower – 1 (with root)
14.  Cabbage – 1 (any variety with root accepted)
15.  Marrow – 1
16.  Any other vegetable (to those in classes 1 – 15)
17.  Trug of mixed vegetables
18.  Longest runner bean

 

Flowers

Plants

Floral Art

32.  Arrangement of flower and fresh fruit
33.  Flower arrangement – title: free choice (title to be presented with arrangement)
34.  Miniature arrangement (no bigger than 25cm sq)

Cut flowers may be used in all floral art classes.

Juniors to state age when entering. Pending entries junior classes may be split into age 8 and under and entrants aged 9 – 15 years old.

 

Awards

Points awarded:

1st = 3 points
2nd = 2 points
3rd = 1 point

Show trophies to be awarded on the day.
Special trophy for most points gained in show.
Trophy for most points in junior classes.

Prize money will be paid out from 4pm on the day of the show.

1st prize       £3 (Juniors £2)
2nd prize      £2 (Juniors £1)
3rd prize       £1 (Juniors 50p)

Entries to be taken to the marquee on Marehay Park between 10am and 12 noon on Saturday 6th September. Entrants will be advised where to display their entry for judging.

Rules

  • All exhibits and their staging items at the show remain at the owner’s risk.
  • All entries must be staged by 12 noon on the day of the show.
  • Exhibitors to provide their own vases, plates etc.
  • All trophies to be returned to the schedule secretary between 1st and 31st August 2009.
  • The judge’s decision is final.
Volunteers needed!

Volunteers are needed to steward / marshal and generally help out on show day.
